Full Version: First time fostering

I really felt that I had no choice, I had 6 dogs left over from my kennel closing that the adoption groups just did not have any room for, so they came home with me. I flunked fostering with one of them and the last girl just left a few weeks ago. I'm going to take a couple of weeks off from fostering and then jump back in.

What made all of you decide to foster?

Fostering is so important to all groups and all the dogs- thank you for fostering. emo-th_thanks.gif

I've only been in the greyhound world for a short time and i've had two fosters!

My first foster, i had actually picked up to take to a meet and greet, he was a black pup that had been in the kennel for 14 months, he wasn't shy but he just didn't "show" well when people would come to adopt, just kinda in his own world...
of course i feel in love with him... so i fostered him to bring him out of his shell and he now has a fantastic home and travels alot!

I decided to foster again because i realized that it is good for the dogs and if they have any quirks we can work on those. I guess i feel fostering will keep dogs from bouncing because we will know what kind of home they need to be placed in. Also if need be it opens up room in the adoption kennel so they can take in as many dogs as they need to.

It might be awhile before i can take in another foster because of school but i can't wait to do it again! biggrin.gif

I don't know when it dawned on me that fostering makes the difference between life and death. The hounds need someplace to go - they need sanctuary. Ever since I figured that out, I've been fostering.

From the day I walked into the kennel to pick and be picked by my Harley I knew then I wanted to foster. He has been with us a year this past month. I have since the adopted 2 more greyt greys, Bella and Butch. I have my first foster, Sid and he is doing greyt!

Denim just tugged at my heart, so I decided to take him home and foster him for a while until the next event on Friday. I was going to take him for longer once we got him home, but Charm doesn't completely get along with him, so he's going back on Sunday. But I'll be bringing home another. These hounds do so much better in a forever home if they've had some training before they get there, and they can't get that in the kennel.
