Full Version: UTI
ibghcrazy
He has been off his last set of antibiotics for almost 2 weeks. They even did a second culture to make sure not only of what bacteria we were fighting and to make sure it was completely gone and it was. I have no clue what this keeps coming back emo-goinginsane.gif
The et just called. Back up we go and this time he wants to do a cath, send it off for another culture and put him on antibiotics again until the results come back. Oh yeah and another xray. I will let you know if we find anything else.

emo-angelic001.gif Hope it is nothing serious and maybe did not have the right anitbiotics or on them long enough. That happend to me once they had to put me back on the antibioticss and discovered I was alergic to the sulfa drug which was the one needed for my UTI.

Maybe it's not a primary infection. Bacteria can be opportunistic - that means they may grow when there are other secondary problems. Unless you find and solve the real original problem, the bacteria return.

Examples of this sort of things are stones (not all show up on plain x-rays), polyps, and bladder wall defects. There are other things too.

Have you had a contrast study done? Or an ultrasound?

All the test came back. The culture grew nothing! The only thing that came up the same was the elevated white cell count. That is not the answer I wanted to hear. When he finishes up this series we will do another cbc to see if the white cell count went down.

How is Harley doing?
ibghcrazy
As of today he still has 2 more days of meds left to take. I took him in today for another blood draw. The vet wants to do another CBC to see if his white cell count went down with this series of Batryl. Last night he whined to get on the bed. I didn't know that cause Mom was in the little girls room. So Tom let him on the bed. He wet the bed while he was sleeping again emo-th_headbangwall.gif emo-confused013.gif This morning he stood and strained to pee. So I told the vet this when they did the blood draw. The blood test come back monday morning and I am dropping him off at 11 for an ultrasound. After all that depending on the bloodwork and Ultrasound we are going to see a specialist.
I just feel so bad for my poor Harley. He just stands there and looks at me like, Can't you fix this Mom? He never whines when he is trying to go. He just looks sad and discusted. I too am flustered. I need to go give him a bath cause he smells like pee.

It is obvious to me this has to be something physical bacause he is showing no signs of a UTI as far as the test go. So he can't eat Sunday night. nor Monday morning. Oh is Harley gonna be pissed and starving.

Harley spent most of the day at the vets office. A place he now hates to go to and fights me going in the door there.

With and empty bladder and colon the vet was able to get some really good xrays and then did the ultrasound. It appears he has stones in his kidneys and tubes. So he called the specialist to get Harley in over there asap. After discussing all of Harley's symtoms the specialist said his symtoms are not consistant with stones so he wanted my vet to do a Renal radiograph, the other type of ultrasound. This one requires a special chemical inserted so everything shows up better. Well that just ticked me off to no end and my vet as well. There must have been a run on this time of test because none of the suppliers had this stuff in stock. I even called all the other vets to see if they had some my vet could borrow but everyone were either out or only had one bottle left and did not want to be complete out. I called the emergency vet and they said they had some and would loan some to my vet. So I took off like a bat out of hell only to be told it too was their only bottle. emo-th_headbangwall.gif emo-th_headbangwall.gif emo-th_headbangwall.gif emo-th_headbangwall.gif I even tried calling in favors at the hospitals to see if I could get some from them. That didn't pan out either emo-th_headbangwall.gif

So now we will wait until wed. or thurs. to get this one done. Now, depending on what that one shows he may have to snatch some cells and send it of to pathology huh.gif

For now Harley is doing ok. The first thing he did when he got home was EAT, EAT, EAT! He had lost 2 lbs from last Thurs to yesterday.
I will let everyone know how the other ultrasond goes and where we go from there. The vet did say if the stones are in his kidneys Harley would have to have surgery to remove them.
