Has anyone come up with a good deterrent for hole digging?
I've got a couple of girls here that can dig 2ft down before I can get out the back door to stop them. They're going to hit my septic system one of these days.

Hole digging I am reading this as I have the same problem especially with Hershey. Her feet go 90 miles an hour digging holes. We have tried that constructiion mesh and as soon as they find it they dig beside it. We have even filled their holes with brick and stones they dig next to them. My yard looks as if it has been bombed and Dave keeps filling them in and usually does not have enough dirt to completly fill them up

I'm thinking I might get my lawn guy to do something like this...dig a "sand pit" and then take the dirt & fill in the holes. He works for a lawn service & could get the sand no problem. Surprisingly....my digger is 13 yrs old...I thought old dogs quit acting like puppies!!!

The only solution I've ever came up with (I had this problem with my huskies, too), was to give them an area where they can dig. This is under our deck for us. Everywhere else gets filled in and something put over the top. If I can catch 'em at it, they get a firm "no", then the hole gets filled in and something put over the top. Eventually they learn where they can dig and I remove the coverings over previous excavations and they leave those areas alone.
Trying to stop digging completely is really hard to impossible. Digging is instinctual for for dogs, and it's a stress reliever. Like chewing bones, digging releases all those feel good chemicals in the brain, and who wants that to stop? Certainly not the puppers!

They go to town digging in the sandbox which is where we want them to dig. They love it there cause the sand is cool after they run, so they can cool down.

I meant to add that I love your sandbox! I'd love to do that to an area of our yard.

It was fun getting the sandbox done, hard labor but what wouldn't I do for our pups.
