I know that there are AR's out there but we met a lot of people at Dewey who didn't like the racing part and said it was so bad etc, etc, etc. We did have to do some educating.
My question is, if there were no greyhound racing, where would we all get ours wonderful dogs, why can't these people understand that. If no racing, you would have no greyhounds to adopt.
I don't understand. Can someone.

Oh D2P, the only anti-racing people that I spoke to at Dewey (about a half dozen) were Pooh-bahs of racing-neutral groups who were just so tired of dealing with the "bad eggs". They were all from racing states and they were so weary of begging for funds to save hounds. For every tale I told of the good trainers I know, they had 6 tales of bad trainers. Dewey was exhausting for me and downright depressing. I came home with a few new friends who I can count on and word of a few new funding sources that I need to check out - but I'm soul-weary.

We talked to a few who were "AR" and I can understand their point also. They tend to focus on the really bad tracks, which unfortunately do exist, but I pointed out there are those tracks, owners and trainers who really do care about their dogs.

Greyhound racing is going to be around for some time and its the adopters and rescue groups who need to remain neutral in order to help the greys to go forward in their lives. Hopefully, over the week-end we were able to let them know how important it is to care about the dogs and to move them from the track to a loving home, and to be negative about racing only hurts the hounds.

I am an AR, but I listen to all sides. I have been lurking here and not signed in, but I am learning a lot from everyone. I am so glad there is a greyhound board like this one. You can talk about all sides and not worry about getting flamed or one side gangs up on you and make you feel like you are stupid or worthless or wrong.

d2p, there are alot of uneducated people out there. They hear and read only certain things, just like the media...Bad news sells.
I know you told these people the truth and you probably educated a lot of folks.
