No matter how fit you are, certain foods could be taking a toll on your body, causing breakouts, bloating and bacteria exposure, not to mention putting your health at risk for disease. Here they are:
1. Diet Soda - weight gain, bloating, loss of calcium - If you're like most, you down diet sodas because of the zero calories. Yet in an 8 year study by the University of Texas Science Center, San Antonio, uncovered that diet soda drinkers actually gain weight. One theory is that the sweet taste makes you crave "real" sugar. From the Mayo Clinic, Katerine Zeratsky, RD,L.D., warns, "Sodas is highly acidic and contains phosphoric acid. When you have too much phosphorus, your body wants to balance it with calcium so it starts to pulling it away from the bones. This sets up for calcium depletion and osteoporosis down the road.
2. Gum - Bloating, gas, cravings, abdominal pains - The repetitive chewing action not only causes you to swallow air, which can bloat your belly, but it can trigger your appetite. The repetitive movement of your jaw stimulates the desire to eat. Sorbitol, a sugar substitute found in some sugar-free gum, isn't doing you any favors either. Its linked to abdominal pains, bloating, and even diarrhea.
3. Unwashed Fruits and Veggies - Ingesting dirt, pesticides, and pathogens - Between growing and traveling, produce pick up pesticide residue and pathogens, including trace amounts of salmonella and E.coli. Stick with locally grown in-season fruit, it won't have to travel so far and fewer hands have touched it. Keep produce under water for 20 seconds.
4. Antibiotic-Fed Chickens - Exposure to harmful bacteria, risk of infections - Chicken breast is a good source of protein, niacin, selenium, vitamin B6, but not all chicken is created equal. Most store-brought chicken are plumped up by adding antibiotics to their feed. This makes them grow 10 to 20 percent faster, which can open you up to antibiotic resistance and harmful bacteria. Opt for "antibiotic free" or organic chicken, check out Tyson chicken.
5. Burnt Meat - Risk of cancer - High intake of well-done fried or barbecued meats may increased your risk of developing cancer, such as breast cancer. The culprit, high temperatures may produce animal carcinogens that experts believe may be human carcinogens. Red meats are high in saturated fat, which can raise blood cholesterol, not to mention your risk of heart disease or stroke.
6. Peanut Butter - Contains sugar, raises cholesterol, increase risk of heart disease - Yes, peanut butter is a good source of protein. But, its second and third ingredients are often high-fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, aka trans fat. The fats are added to extend its shelf life, however, given that they increase your risk of heart disease, they won't extend your shelf life. It also contains sugar, almost a teaspoon per serving.
7. Cured Meats - Water retention, hypertension, risk of diseases -No doubt hot dogs are American staple, but like deli meat and bacon, they're loaded with salt. Too much salt not only bloats your body, it also raises your risk of heart disease. Cured meats have also been linked to pulmonary disease, stomach cancer and colon cancer.

This is interesting. I've seen most of this in separate reports, but a few of them are new. Here's my habits for each one...
1. Diet Soda - One Coke Zero a night, usually with dinner. Not always, though. The rest of the time I drink water.
2. Gum - I don't chew gum. I do eat a variety of mints, though.
3. Unwashed Fruits and Veggies - I always wash and/or peel my fruits and veggies. Most all of my veggies come from local suppliers. Fruit, unfortunately, has to be shipped in.
4. Antibiotic-Fed Chickens - I've never paid much attention to the chicken. I buy Tyson, though, from Sam's Club.
5. Burnt Meat - Well, I bar-b-que just about every single night during the summer, and that's not likely to change. I don't make a practice of burning anything, though :lol
6. Peanut Butter - Not a big peanut butter eater. Once a year, maybe.
7. Cured Meats - I suffer pretty severe migraines, and cured/aged foods are migraine triggers for me so I don't indulge in those things very often no matter how much I like 'em!
What about everyone else?

I eat very clean, which is thanks to my training. I don't drink diet or regular sodas, I enjoy, green tea, hot or ice, and I drink water, I love a slice of lemon in my water. I don't chew gum, mainly because I was born with soft teeth and the chewing hurts my teeth and my jaw, I'm prone to cavities. I always wash my fruits and veggies for at least 20 seconds, don't want that problem again. I also eat Tyson chicken. I don't eat red meats.I don't eat peanut butter, about once a month I will enjoy a handful of nuts. Never liked hot dogs or packaged meats, I eat mostly sea food, never fried which includes chicken.

Ok I can give up most of those except BBQ food. I love it. BBQ food is a bad habit for me. I would compare my love of BBQ to being a herion addict. In the summer, I BBQ almost every night. I crave grilled food. Give me any choice of food that I could have and it would be BBQ food.
