I know that the thread got locked on the other board as we knew it would so I'm posting over here too for those that are interested. Thanks to the people who are following this up close and plan on making the court house their mission for the duration. Community support can move mountains.

When the post got locked, I pm'd a member that's involved in this, and I'm hoping our rescue group is going to write to the Police Chief and the DA since we can't be there in person. This member told me that people showed up at the courthouse with their greyhounds, which really made a statement, and when he goes back to court on Dec. 27th for a pre-trial hearing, they'll will be there again with their greys.

I posted this quickly as I just got home, so I wasn't smart enough to click on the link first. If the Police Chief's and the DA's address isn't in the link, I can post it if it's ok with D2P. The idea is to let the DA who is prossicuting this case and the chief of police to do everything in their power to put this guy away for what he has done.

This is one of the worst stories I've read about the abuse of greyhounds. We have to let the authorities know we won't and can't tolerate such behavior in people.

I think this is very important for all greyhound owners to write to the Chief of Police and the District Attorney who is prosecuting this case and tell them that this can't be tolerated anymore, and he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The amount of mail they'll get will tell them how many people are following this, and this can help.

OK, so today is Feb. 6th. I haven't heard anything about what happened in court today with this SOB. I hope someone can update.

He's been convicted of animal abandonment, and withholding food and water from an animal in RI. His sentence is 6 months in the house of correction, suspended. On top of the six months he gets 11 months probation, plus he must pay restitution for the medical expenses for Sari, and court costs. If he fails in any of this, he goes to jail for 11 months.

His next court dates are June 23 in Connecticut, and August 21 in Newton, MA. The Connecticut case is a misdemeanor, like in RI but he faces felony counts in MA, and up to 2.5 years in jail.

I think everyone can agree that he definately deserves more than he got in RI. I hope it'll catch up to him in MA.

Is it me or are we seeing more & more animal cruelty cases in the news vs hidden or disregarded? Today on my local news was a story of a man who has been charged with 18 counts of animal cruelty against horses. His mother & an accomplice have been charged with transporting horses/kidnapping & something else, $200 PER horse! They got caught because of a flat tire, 12 horses in one stock trailer & one horse died from being trompled. My sister has offered to foster some of the horses on her property. All of the horses have been finally returned to the country rescue. Some of the pictures are just heart breaking...but what is it with these people!!!
