I guess this is running in a few markets. It's so over the top...

Wow! What a shocker. They really went straight to the point.

That has gone to far, how sick. emo-throughtomato.gif emo-puke.gif

sick and straight to the point but people still don't learn so i guess they'll keep trying to educate in whatever way they can (no i'm not a fan of Peta but some of their messages are ok)
dad2paisley
That is true. They got their point accrossed.

I'm ok with a totally shocking campaign to get people to understand the plight of unwanted dogs and indiscriminate breeding, but no where does it say that this purebred puppy is going to be just a pet and not also going to be a show dog, or courser, or a dozen other things the family might be looking to do with its purebred pup.

PETA is labeling ALL purebred dog breeders as evil, and anyone who wants a purebred dog as evil. Apparently, anyone who wants to show or compete with a purebred dog is evil incarnate and will happily condemn mixed breeds to death.

Why aren't they addressing WHY so many dogs end up in shelters to begin with? The family wanting the purebred isn't treating their dog like a disposable commodity; whoever dumped the poor pup that ended up in the body bag did, and that's who the target should be.

This commercial isn't for the people who want purebreed dogs for show etc. those people "usually" know what they are doing..

this commercial seems to be for the family that just buys a dog to just have a dog..
Peta has addressed why dogs end up in shelters in other situations... (DAMNIT! am i defending Peta what the hell?!!) this commercial seems to be for the family that doesn't research where their dog is coming from.. could have been a puppy mill.. who knows...

personally i like the commercial but i can see why some may not!

But that's the problem. They're not making a distinction. They're making a blanket statement about pure breed breeders and buyers. You and I read in the sub text about puppy mills, etc., but Joe Blow doesn't. Joe Blow just thinks "pure bred" and starts to get a bad taste in his mouth about folks who breed and pure breed dogs.

PETA keeps up with campaigns like this and then eventually introduces legislation that limits the number of pure breed puppies bred each year, or pressure is applied to the property owners who lease the property where events are held because it's not politically correct to support pure breed stuff. Public opinion eventually gets swayed to where it's socially unacceptable to have a pure breed dog, if not downright illegal. PETA would love that.

See, PETA didn't distinguish between puppy mills and responsible breeders, because in the eyes of PETA, there is no distinction.

What is interesting about PETA, is the free advertising they get every time they publish a new campaign. All they have to do is put their message out there and the shocked public spreads it like wildfire. I never would have seen their commercial had it not been posted on this message board. Not only that, but I watched three more while I was there.

PETA has brilliant marketing people because they can afford to pay for the best. They want you to hate them. Mass hysteria helps further their cause. The more people talk about how "over the top" they are, the more hits their web site gets. They could never get this much exposure on their own.

This one did not seem all that outrageous to me. They are trying to get people to consider adopting homeless pets from the pound instead of buying labradoodles. Nothing wrong with that. At least they are doing something to try and tackle the problem of pet overpopulation.

I wouldn't worry too much about purebreds becoming extinct. At least, not in this lifetime.

I kinda like the ad. It gets right to the point. I think it would, however, go right over the heads of some of the people who really need the spay/neuter education. DUH!!!!!
Redstripe
so this commerical effects only the people who know better....?

PETA has a great message but "they" need to find a better way to get it across and get rid of the whole animal liberation thing but thats a whole new thread
dad2paisley
I saw a person from Peta on Bill O'Reily last night. They were talking about the ad and the lady from Peta said the ad was a satire.

The host say folks might think you have to spay or nuter your kids. hee hee
