So, I'm nervous. The coordinator for the adoption group asked me to do the reference checks on the couple wanting to adopt Roxy, and she asked me to set up and do the home visit. I've never done one before, so I'm a little nervous. Not so much that I'll miss something, but that I'll be a complete dog care Nazi ! I'm feeling very protective of this big, lovable girl. The references checked out, they both have good jobs, and they seem animal savvy, so I'll try to keep my control freak issues in check . Let's hope this is the home for Roxy!

YAY Roxy!!!!!! Don't be nervous about the home visit. I love doing home visits. I feel this is a very important part of adoption. Let them ask a lot of questions if they have them, and they should. Look around you when you're there, take notice of any other pets and how they act, to make sure Roxy will get along.

The home visit went great. The young couple was the perfect place for Roxy. They were so excited, they had already done a ton of research about Danes and were open to suggestions about food, feeding, and where to find more info. They thought she was the most wonderful creature to ever crawl up on their couch. I hope every home visit is that easy.

So, after going from owner/pound/owner/owner/lost/pound/owner/rescue/foster, at 20 months old, Roxy finally has her forever home. As one of the most perfect dogs I've ever met, the bounces and shuffles are completely beyond my understanding. Well, she's got a quality home now with folks that know there are people they can turn to for help.

For those of you who've had bad ones, how did you handle them?
