Oh my poor baby girl. This morning around 5 we were finishing up our first walk, as we were heading back home, something caught Misty attention and she was standing near a sewer grate. She stopped walking and I sort of pulled her and told her come on, the next thing I hear is her screaming and her lifting her back right leg, which was bleeding. I did a quick check, no bones sticking out and she jogged home. Once inside I saw she had a clean deep cut down to the tissues, I applied pressure and clean it up as best as I could. She some how must have gotten her back leg caught in the grate and sliced it as she pulled it out. It all happened so fast. So, off to the vets, Dr. Benson told me that the tissues looked good and he wanted to take her in the back for surgery, I believe he wanted to suture up the tissue but he is concerned about her collateral circulation. He will put a pressure dressing on her leg for two weeks and hopefully everything will heal. Oh I feel so awful, it happened so fast and normally she walks in the street and stays away from the sewer grate, but something caught her attention. Dr. Benson suggested a teeth cleaning and I told him that was fine since she is under, I really don't want her to go under twice, since she is 10.5 years old. Please pray for my sweet princess. Thank you.

I will pray for Misty. Things like this can and will happen. I hope you don't blame yourself. I am the type that I blame myself for any little thing that happes to my girls. They are just like children. And children fall, bump their heads, fall from a high climb without our knowing, eat funny and dangerous things, and check out sewer grates. And those things do happen so very fast. We don't even have time to figure out what happened much less help. THat reminds me, I need to get both my girl's teeth cleaned.

This kind of stuff does happen, so don't beat yourself up. I hope everything goes well at the vets. I'll be thinking of her.

Some good news, I called the vet's office and the tech told me that Misty is alert and sitting up watching everyone. I can bring her home after 5:30 this evening. I went back over to check out that grate, I slided my hand under the grates, of course with a heavy glove on and they are not completely round, and they are very sharp. My guess is that this morning something caught Misty's attention like a deer or a fox and she was so focus, when I pulled her and said come on, she must have moved over to the sewer and her leg went in, as she was pulling it out, she must have twisted it as she was pulling it out as the metal was slicing her leg, for it to be a straight cut from the front to both sides. She is very lucky, she could have broken her leg or worse, severed it. I'm ready mad now, who ever makes these grates, they should make they completely round with no sharp edges, this could have been a life threating situation, for any dog or animal. I know one thing, we will be walking in the middle of the street from now on and avoiding all sewers. My poor baby girl. Well, she will be home soon.

Poor girl. I'm so glad she gets to come home tonight. Make sure she gets some extra spoilin' since she's got a sore leg AND she had to get her teeth cleaned. What a trooper!

She is doing really good so far. She woke up today around six standing wanting to go out. I put a plastic bag on her leg so the bandage wouldn't get wet and she does real good walking with it outside. She was really for her regular walk, but I told her no, no, Dr. Benson said short walks, she was not real happy with that suggestion. She ate a good breakfast since she had not eaten for over 24 hours. Her foot was swelling so I called the vet's office and I was told to make a small cut in the bandage and massage the foot, seems to have helped, the swelling is going down. The kittens are real quite around her and they just sit and watch her. It seems as it they know she is recovery from an injury and they are keeping watch over her. Misty is on an antiboitic, Baytril, once a day. She does not appear to be in any pain and she is leaving the bandage alone. She is such a good girl. Hopefully soon she will be back to her old self and I know she will be really ready for her walks.

That's great news. She might need a special treat, crab leg or lobster tail.

I've been so busy I didn't get a chance to post yesterday. She went in for a bandage change and the vet tech told me she is healing very well, it looks good. She goes back next Tuesday for another check and if all goes well the bandage can come off for good. She now has a purple bandage, that's her color, purple tag collar, martingale collar, leash and rain and winter coat!! She still gives me a little attitute about her short walks, she stands still with her head down and trying to pull me her way, sorry honey, not yet.

She is doing really good. Yesterday she was seen again for another bandage change, no bleeding, drainage, or infection. This time she has a smaller bandage on, neon green!! The sutures can come out of Sunday!!
