What does everyone here use for flea and tick control? I haven't seen any fleas yet, but if the tick population is any indication, it's going to be a *bad* year. I've found 2 new ticks on our grey and 2 engorged ticks in the carpet. I'm super paranoid now. Nasty things! I've read in some places that Advantage or Frontline are ok, and other places that they are definite no-nos. I'm stumped but I need to do something! Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

My rescue group and my vet all think Frontline Plus is great. I've been using this for years and no problems.

OK, Frontline Plus it is. I've got to get some ASAP.
Yep, we didn't have a hard freeze this year (central TX), and all the bugs are already bad. I usually don't exterminate the house and yard either, but this year, I think I'm going to have to. I've already got sugar ants out my ears in the kitchen, and the fire ants are already cropping up. My daughter is allergic to fire ants (epi pen and hospital trip required), so it's really important that we keep those under control, too.
Thanks, y'all, for the input!

I am sorry that you are going to have a rough year (bug wise). We don't have a big tick issue in our area so we just use a flea preventor (Program). But our vet carries the advantage for if people go places where ticks are an issue.
Advantage has a product that is flea, tick and heartworm.

I guess you might say I am alergic to fireants. I was hit with them while in FL and when I came back to Pittsburgh ended up in the hospital for 5 days. Doctors said I could of lost my foot if I did not go into the hospital when I did. Huge blisters on my rt food and smaller ones on the left. You could not see my big toe as it was one big blister.
Flea and tick we use bio spot which was reccomended by a breeder from FL

Beryl, what is Bio Spot (i have never heard of it)? Also when do you start giving flea treatment ... all year, when the temperature stays above zero? We have been giving all year but I am wondering if we need too.

BioSpot can be bought at any Pet Super market or on line at KVVet Supply.com or probably any on line Pet Suppy Store without a prescription. I treat mine year round so it gets into their system. I had a tick infestation one year and later found out even people using frontline and advantage also had ticks. I was told by a breeder to get this and I have been using it ever since. Even when I had the infestation after it had been on for a week or so I was finding dead ticks.

Well,
For years I have used Frontline Plus, but recently I tried Biospot. I am not real sure of its effectiveness yet. I gave it to my dogs 2 weeks ago and I have not seen any fleas or ticks on them as of yet, but I do notice that they still scratch alot more. I am not sure if their skin is dry and that is why they are itching or if they have fleas that I cannot see. But on a positive note, I have no flea bites so I guess it is working. Right now Biospot is giving away a 3 month supply for free. You can try it for free and let me know what you think.

Please do a little more reading up on Biospot. Some vets dont /wont use it. All my hounds use Hartguard and Frontline Plus. Best price I've found is from Deadfleaz.com. Have been ordering them from Australia for quite some time and never had a problem with product or delivery. I wish we had a season where I dont have to use it! Its always flea and tick season in Miami

Thanks for the tip on the website. That is a great deal. I know that I will probably be going back to Frontline Plus.
