Full Version: Pedigree Commercials
dad2paisley
Those commercials for Pedigree dog food where they are saying how they will donate a portion of their dog food sales to homeless dogs or something....blah blah blah.....showing the inside of a shelter and all the dogs behind bars, and then a voice-over like it's supposed to be the dogs speaking, in this pitiful voice, things like "I don't know why I'm in here....I'm a good dog....I just want a home..."

What do you think of the commercials?

I have been using pedigree as a staple for my dogs food for years. I havent seen the exact commercial that u speak of where the dog is "talking" but ive seen the ones where they brag of donating to help the homeless dogs, and i think its cool. Not sure why they wouldnt say it if it wasnt true. Good on them.

I'm happy to see a major dog food company getting the word out about adoption. And is it Pedigree or Purina that does the dog food for shelters and rescue groups - free food based on some formula?

I don't know the commercial you speak of but...

i don't think they should have the dog "saying" that.. because we know why most dogs end up in shelters.. people adopt and then get "tired" of their dog or they don't research the breed they adopt.. for example: someone who adopts a jack russel and thinks the dog is too hyper!? or someone who adopts a great dane and the dog gets too big (sounds stupid but it happens)

how about the dog saying "my owners were idiots!"

I'm glad that Pedigree is putting some money towards adoptions, but I just can't believe Pedigree is sponsering Westminster. Pedigree is CRAP dog food with to much crap in it. I would think a top of the line food would be sponsering. But I guess it all comes down to Pedigree spending the money to get to be the sponser.

That was really good Hannah! And I bet that's what all pound dogs say to!

i don't understand that either... Eukanuba sponsored some show last year and that is owned by iams (or they own iams, something like that) and they are the worst when it comes to animal testing..

It's the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and it runs prior to Westminster. Most of the dogs you see at Westminster competed at the Eukanuba.

I just finished watching the last night of Westminster, and I gotta' say, I loved the Pedigree commercials. I loved the cute ones, the tug at your heart strings ones, and I especially loved the two that pointedly talked about people moving and leaving their dogs behind. Go Pedigree!

I also might add that pedigree is one of the most popular brands, and they might be making a lot more money, therefore its a good thing that they pass that cash on to the dogs that most likely will end up eating it.

Pound dogs do usually get the cheaper food, then the adopter can decide if they want to give their new pet a better dog food. Pedigree ranks with the grocery store and WalMart brands.

In greyhound rescue, the first thing said about dog food is not to buy from the grocery store or places like WalMart. Even Ol Roy is a popular food, because of price ONLY.

I would not feed my dogs pedigree. I have seen friends of ours who's dogs eat only it. They have cronic dry skin, ear infections, eye discharge and their dogs coat is rough (like hair that has been dyed way to many times). I have researched alot of foods and really there is very little nutritional value in it and to keep your dogs healthy(proper vitamin and nutrient levels) you in the long run will spend as much feeding it as buying a better quality food and feeding less.
Sorry I'll get off my soap box now.

I wouldn't feed Pedigree, either. In fact, my latest foster was eating Pedigree when she came to me and you could tell; her coat and skin were dry and nasty. Just four days on good food has already made a huge difference.

That said, all kudos to Pedigree for getting the word out about throwaway dogs. I don't know of any other dog food company that's doing that. This is cause marketing at it's best, and if Mars/Pedigree ever comes out with a food that meets my standards and requirements, I'll feed it to my dogs.

Working at a kennel with sometimes over 100 days boarding with us i have seen MANY dogs eat ol roy and pedigree and some others in that category... most of them did just fine.. i think it differs from dog to dog..

my brother and sister-in-law's dogs eat cheap food too and they do just fine on them.. some people just don't know about dog foods, what's good and what's not..
one of their dogs is a long haired dachsund and he is 9 years old and acting just like a puppy with gorgeous long hair...

Al eats Nutro because he has a sensitive tummy and its the only food he doesn't get the Big D on
