Full Version: IG Foster
simile
Little Diego came into the rescue a few weeks ago and my director has been trying to get me to foster him ever since. I've been resisting for a few reasons: We had Punkin at the time (just arrived) and I didn't know how an Iggy would fare with both Chloe and Punkin and their rough play. After that, I knew I wanted to try to get Finn adopted. He'd been in our rescue for a long time and had cat issues, so I wanted to work with that, and there was no way I was taking on an Iggy when I was bringing another high prey drive dog into the house. But the main reason was that, even though he's a sighthound, IGs have always been at the bottom of my list of "sighthounds I'd like to have". I'm just not interested in little dogs. I mean, they're cute and everything, but to live with one?

Well, I'm Finn free, and there aren't any more large problem children in our rescue at the moment, so no more excuses.

This little guy trotted into our house and now he may not leave. Here are some pictures. Please excuse all the photo errors - I was just snapping away yesterday while we were playing and not concentrating on taking "good" shots.

He played all afternoon with the big hounds, whet shopping at the feed store with us, and spent the evening snuggling with DH while I was sewing (yes, I was making him a new collar). When bedtime came along, he crawled under the covers and cozied up to DH like he'd been doing it his whole life.

But I don't like little dogs!!!! *laughing at myself*

I know I know I know. It's killing me. And the thing is, I think this is the little guy I saw at the Mutt March last summer that so impressed me. There were four or five Iggies there and this was the only one who wasn't shaking and trying to hide behind his person. He was standing like he owned the place, happy to meet the other dogs, excited to meet my big greys, and eager to go on the walk.

The more time I spend with this little guy, the more I'm convinced that they didn't get their name from where the breed originated. I think that the "Italian" is completely descriptive - he's such a little stud when he struts around the house and yard, and then he's a complete lover and seducer when he cuddles emo-heartbeat.gif . All he needs is a red rose and a bottle of chianti and he'd be a total lathario emo-hehe.gif .

I'm not a real big fan of small dogs either, but then I saw the pictures. No wonder this is a hard decision! I think I'd have a hard time myself. I love the way he's marked.

Well, if you foster flunk, we certainly can uderstand why. emo-hehe.gif
