Full Version: Good thoughts for Milky
dad2paisley
She has been licking her front left leg and it was starting to get better but last night I noticed it's pretty raw and near the bone. We have her on allergies medicine the vet gave us, cause the vet thinks Milky has allergies.
I have been spraying the area with Bitter Yuk, No Sting spray which has helped some. We have a vet appt this Sunday. It was scabbing over really well this past Tuesday, now it's pretty red and raw.

Any ideas of what we can do before the vet appt.

Take an old sock, and cut the end out of it so her paw can go all the way through. It'll cover the area that is hurt, but won't get dirty or wet because her paw will not be covered by the sock. Very loosely secure it around her leg, so that you don't cut the circulation off.
When you're not home, put her muzzle on with a poop cup in it so she can't lick through the muzzle.
Does the sock part make any sense?

Great idea Hilda!!!
dad2paisley
Thanks Hilda. Yes, we'll have to try that. How bout vet wrapping the area?

You should have seen her sad face this morning.
Redstripe
vet wrap might work if you put some gauze on the spot... but evidentually it'll need to air out and heal up... when i catch Al licking i pop him on the nose and say no.. it usually works for a few minutes.. then i just have to continue to say no

No advice tha hasn't already been mentioned but I send big hugs for Milky, hoping she heals quickly.

Poor Milky, I think the muzzle is a good idea.
Redstripe
muzzles are a good idea... IF the dog doesn't use the muzzle to scratch with, which is what Al does if he has a boo-boo!
dad2paisley
I don't think the muzzle would work. She is crated while we are at work, so I would worry she get the muzzle caught.

Just got home from work and Milky's leg looks pink now, not bright red like this morning. Trish and I are going out on a date to Outback. I am going to get the lobster tails. Yummy.
I am going to spray her leg again. She got her allergy pill so she is set for that for tonight.

She sounds like she's doing much better. D2P, you're the seafood King! Have fun!
dad2paisley
Thanks Jimmy. With a day like today at work, I need a treat.

Milky saw the vet yesterday. The vet cleaned out the area, wrapped it in vet wrap and Milky is on antibiotics. Milky is staying up with Paisley and Misty at our other house. It's less active up there and Milky can rest and let her leg heal. Because we when got home yesterday she and the pups, Lincoln and Bear had a race around our back muddy yard.
