Full Version: Sign And Drive wins Jacksonville Sprint

It was a dark and stormy night, no really it was, and that did play a role in the finals of the 2008 $30,000 Jacksonville Sprint Classic April 5. The track was a bit muddy and it really did favor the early speed a bit, but you still had to get out of the box if you wanted to win this race anyways. And get out of the box was just what Sign And Drive did.

This May 2006 daughter of Dodgem By Design out of Happiness didn’t know that she was the second longest shot on the board at 18-1 and ran like a 1-9 shot. Breaking wide early on she made room for herself to the turn as she adjusted the lane for the 3 greyhound Ask Jaime at the break. Jaime in turn drifted wide and either cutoff or collided with everyone outside of her. This put Sign and Drive in the Drivers seat in this race and gave Sugar Shadow a ton of room on the inside.

Arriving at the turn in front Drive was in command of this effort, but Jaime had recovered from the early trouble and was stalking in second. Sugar was just off in third on the rail and the rest of the field had some catching up to do.

Continuing to impress on the lead Drive held strong to the far turn and Jaime seemed to have to remedy for the leaders pace. Down the stretch Drive just kept the foot on the gas and even though Jaime nibble a bit at the lead, she never really challenged the leader for the win. Sugar Shadow held on for third as Get Readythunder overcame double trouble to drive up and challenge for show at the finish line.

Rounding out the field was Kiowa Wild Boy in 5th, Blaze N Ray in 6th, T Dizzle in 7th and Kiowa Guv Water in 8th.

Congrats go out to Jennette “Shorty” Holmes as she get the Connell Kennel there first stakes victory since returning to the Orange Park Kennel Club late last year. She is really doing a great job and I guess you can’t say it any better than what I heard a wise man once say, “She had two Greyhounds in the last two stakes finals, and that is just because she is a good trainer.”

Congrats also go out to owner Arnell Connell and everyone else connected with the Connell Kennel for this great victory.
