Full Version: Does your grey have a healthy coat ?
Liz
Dozers neck fur is thick and soft feels like a bunny but his body Coat is kinda dry and dull. when he feels better. I need to do something about his dandruff.

Do you add anything to your greys food , to help give them a shiny healthy coat ?

Omega-3 fish oil is really good for skin and coat!

We use the salmon oil for our three, has really improved the look and feel of their coats. Good stuff.

It's super dry up here, like desert dry (we have the same precipitation as Phoenix and similar humidity) so dry skin and hair, for humans and pets is always an issue. When we were feeding kibble, the crew got canned tripe almost every meal, and salmon treats (Yummy Chummies) every day. They had beautiful, soft, flake free coats. I tried the salmon oil, but thought it was completely disgusting emo-hehe.gif and just couldn't use it. I do know it works really well, though. Since we've switched to raw, their coats are even softer.

We buy them fish oil capsules at WalMart and just plop into their food. Tried the straight fish oil but could not handle the smell.

One fish oil pill, once a day with a little cheese whiz.

I've been giving Ava a fish oil capsule with every meal (2x a day) and I haven't noticed that much improvement for her coat or dandruff. She is still shedding like mad (but I assume spring molting is party to blame here), and is reallllllly flaky. We try to put sardines in her food when we remember (I'm not home for 4 of her suppers per week). Anything else fairly cheap/easy I can try? What about those oil "sauces" that the sell at the pet stores? I saw one that had omega-3's and hemp oil etc. in some yummy sounding flavours. Thoughts?

How about trying a shampoo ask your Pet Store or Vet which one to use. Mine are spring shedding (greyhounds don't shed emo-hehe.gif)

I use the fish oil gel caps. They like them so much, I can use them as a morning treat.

Lucky you Hilda mine are so persnickety that sometimes I have to shove them down their throat

That darn Belle today would not take her Pheno, Dave even shoved it in a piece of crumby that we fried yesterday and saved for the furkids (it is the left over batter from the shrimp) so he had to jam it.

Ewwww haha !

Dozers coat is much better instead of just his neck being bunny soft , His whole body is fuzzy bunny soft (the white parts). emo-bighead.gif His black patches are still kinda dull so were working up to getting it right.

All except Jams have a shiny coat but Jams fur is so soft and she does have some dandruff we are going to give her a good bath today and it might just be her winter fur growing out.

here in england i use evening primose oil capsules 500mg.
we got our grey from a retired greyhound centre when we got her she had bad dandruff and bald in places and the bloke there said they might not grow back but whilst looking in a pet shop i saw these capsules they was about £3.00 for 30 caps but i saw the exact same caps in asda (wal mart) 180 caps for same price as 30 in the pet shop.
they are used for womens health to maintain healthy skin within 1 1/2 months she has no bald patches and a lovely glossy coat and her dandruff as nearly disappeared but she also gets pilchards at least once a week

Tyson and our Lab have beautiful shiny coats (or that is what everyone says who meets them) and all we feed them is Eagle Pack Holistic Salmon and Anchovy food. For treats the get the same brand of Salmon treats (they are 90% salmon).
I can tell if either dog is not feeling right as their coats go funky (shedding or they have the wet dog smell or dull coat).
It is great that primrose works so well (I know what to try if I have a problem ... thanks)
