She scared the living daylights out of me last night. Every thing was fine until about 10 pm when she woke up and did not have the use of her rear legs. Right away I thought stroke and she was bouncing off of everything. She finally made it over to the cutting table area with her rear legs at a very awkard position. I paged Dave at work and asked if he should come home and I said yes incase she got worse. By the time he got home I had a towel under her to help get her over to the area that she likes to lay. When Dave got home she decided she had to go out so he used the towel sling and got her up and out and she did pee. She wanted her treat but would not eat the bone so he gave a few soft treats while the others had their bones. Tossed and turned all night and he said this morning she seems almost back to normal. I am going to keep a couple of towels in the dining room incase I need them tonight. I am wonder if maybe her legs fell asleep. Any opinions?
Praying this does not happen again.

That is my first thought, that her legs went to sleep. My 2nd one is stroke like Snowy had. My vet told me that their body absorbs the clots almost right away...the ones that go to the brain is the one Snowy is having. The one that went to the heart is the one BuyCut had.
Snowy couldn't walk mainly in her hind legs with both of hers, but by the 2nd day she was standing but needed assistance.
Prayers went up as soon as I saw Softee's name in the Check In...I didn't know what it was about but something in my heart said Send A Prayer!!!

Knowing Softee & Snowy...they probably sent emails to each other & decided it was Softee's turn to scare someone. This is not funny...we need to keep these girls separated.
The other thing, Snowy's appetite is so good when she does these things.

Thank you Hilda - Dave said she still is wobbly and she did want her treat about 90 minutes after this episode. With her asleep and then getting up it seems as if maybe her legs fell asleep but it lasted a long time or maybe it was a mini stroke. I guess we will never know.

Wow. This is scary stuff. I hope Softee is going to be alright. I know your crew has been a handful lately. Please keep us informed with her. (and Belle, or course)

Maybe get her up more often. I've noticed when Snowy sleeps a little longer, she's weaker & slower at getting up. But once she gets up, she's okay...maybe their circulation is a little off. Please keep us posted. Softee's my girl!

Talked to Dr. Nolan a pathologist at work and she stated just like we are saying it could of been a mini stroke or her legs fell asleep. She is doing okay now but a little wobbly. Will try what Hilda says about getting her moving.

Would not go out for me when I tried getting her out she screamed her head off as I touched her. Dave did get her out and she peed, got soft treats instead of the milk bone. She is still begging and alert its just her read legs that are unsteady.

Softee is in the hospital they are running tests and x-rays. I asked about the vestubular (sp) and he said no she did not have it. Predisone will be discussed after they go over her. There was blood on Thursday that I did not mention and today again in the car. While at the vets Dave discovered a cut on her butt by the bony part and that is where the blood is coming from. The are going to suture that up also hopefully under a local. Have to wait for a call will let you know more as soon as I do or when I pick her up.

Deep breaths, deep breaths!
I asked my vet about vestibular (ves tib u lar) and he said Snowy didn't have it either...there's vomiting, dizziness, nausea, all kinds of stuff that goes with it & its all related to inner ear.
After you give her some Heehoo kisses, hugs, scritches, ice cream, loving, whispers of I love you very much, then tell her not to do this anymore.

It is arthritis and old age - x-rays did not show any disc problems like the first vet thought. Thursday when she came down hard on her butt she caused a split on the bony part (she is bony anyway) about 1 inch long. They decided to suture that and found out it was a little infected. She has a drain and is on rimadyl and an antibiotic. She was walking much better when we picked her up from the vet and now we have to see if she will eat for us to give her her meds..

She had a buffet this am - scrambled baked eggs, boiled ground meat, pedigree, gravy train and cadilac. A little bit of all of that enough that we could give her meds. Loose bowels and I do have the rice mix on for her.

Pipi5
20th April 2008 - 02:24 PM
That is FANTASTIC news that she's walking without aid. Could the loose bowels be the antibiotics?
Ice cream...baby food...cottage cheese...fix you a bowl of it too & then feed her from your bowl so she thinks she's getting something even more special.
Beryl
20th April 2008 - 02:41 PM

Got her to eat on one of our regular plates. Some cat food, pedigree, gravy train, beef/rice, egg, liver brownie and a little pumpkin bread. All told about 3/4 cup and before that a slice of american cheese. Gave Dave a hassle with her pills kept spitting them out and not sure how much of the antibiotic got in her
Beryl
20th April 2008 - 08:57 PM
