Hello my name is Christina, I live in Loudoun County, VA. I have applied to adopt my first greyhound. If you have any advice to give me please do. I have loved this breed since I was a young girl. I have 2 small dogs a shih tzu and a Jack Russel.

emo-wteg.gif Good Luck!

Have you read any books on greyhounds, yet!? I'm sure you have a vet you love and trust for you two pups already, is he/she familiar with the greyhound breed and some of their special needs (ex. anestisia, spelling might be off a bit!?)

Can't wait to see some pics!!! emo-EGrocks.gif

Hi Christina, it was so nice meeting you yesterday! As Linda (lovemygreys) and I have said, this is the place to be to get questions answered.

Welcome to EG , the best greyhound forum around, from Ontario Canada. If you have any questions just ask, everyone here is incredibly helpful.
We however do need to see pictures of the new addition when available (and the other pups as well)
we want to be able to ooooh and ahhh.

I will post pics ASAP of my Shih Tzu and Jack. I am just so excited. I have read a few different books on Greyhound. Adopting the retired greyhound and Greyhound for dummies. Plus a few other dog books. Linda and Jimmy thank you so much for the time you spent with me chatting about this wonderful breed.

I had my home visit. Looks like my fence is a little to short in two spots. I will add some wire stuff to it. I can not remember what was told to me to use. I am trying not to be discourged. I am going to work on my fence this weekend. On the upside I was told that I have a conditional approval pending the find of a hound that is not a jumper. I will kepp you posted. Thank you all for your time.

So what if your fence isn't great. You can still just walk your dog. Lots of my friends don't have a fenced in yard, and got to adopt a dog. They just walk their dog. Not to be nosey, but what group are you trying to get your dog from.

We are still with you.

She's getting it from our group. Hettie's husband is tough on this stuff, but because most greys don't jump, this should go through with no problem once the low spots are covered.

We are a little particular on the fences, since every hound we've ever had to go look for has gotten out through a fence. (or over) Once Hettie gets back from vacation (end of month), this should be a done deal, and hopefully, a pup will be on the way.

And Tom's right Christine, you can always do what a lot of us do, and just walk the hound. But your fence will be fixed before Hettie can get your hound up here, as she can't call for a hound until she gets back from vacation.

After talking to husband he reassured me that he will get on the fence this weekend for me. I do live out in the country and I would hate for a small animal to be spotted and my greyhound is up and over after the animal. I want to have the best possible home I can give a greyhound. So hopefully I will have a greyhound to pick up around my b-day in early september. As for the things in my home. I just need to toddler proof my home. I will try to post some pics of my 2 tonight.

Ok, no problem. I guess if you had cases like that with the fence, it's good to get that squared away first.

mrsctruax, don't get discouraged . Once you get your hound you will feel great knowing he/ she will be secure and safe in your yard. Hang in there I bet you will find the perfect hound sooner then you think. emo-bighead.gif

I know this was started in July, I'm slowly "getting out of the box" and exploring other areas...duh, I've only been here nearly a year!
How did this story end? Did you get your pup?
My very first greyhound was given to me, her former owners lived next door, they had a 4 foot wooden fence & she went over it once...then went around to the front porch & looked in their glass door & waited.
My friends Cynde & Hurricane have a 4 foot fence & no one has jumped it, but like Jimmy & Tom said, you can always go walking, good exercise for the 2 of you. And its good bonding time.
I hope everything went good!
