Another article. Is there anyone who can find out if this is accurate?

According to state records, greyhound injuries increased to a record level at Hinsdale Greyhound Park during the first four months of 2007, nearly tripling the total from the same time period a year ago.

"These terrible injuries are occurring every day at Hinsdale Greyhound Park," said GREY2K USA Board Member Michael Trombley. "During the first four months of the year, more than a dog a day was injured."

In total, 141 dogs were injured between January 1 and April 30, according to state records provided by the New Hampshire Pari-Mutuel Commission. This represents a 276% increase over a year ago, when 51 dogs were hurt during the first four months of the year at the track. This increase was first reported in this morning's edition of the Brattleboro Reformer.

Reported injuries include dogs that suffered multiple broken bones, and fractures so severe there were "bones protruding from skin." So far, eight dogs have been euthanized at the track due to serious injury.

Earlier this year, the State House of Representatives defeated a proposal to phase out dog racing by 2009. The proposal had been endorsed by dozens of lawmakers, community leaders and local animal shelters.

"We have not given up in our effort to end this cruelty," said Trombley. "Dogs play an important role in our lives, and deserve to be protected from individuals and industries that would do them harm."

GREY2K USA is a national, non-profit greyhound protection organization with more than 20,000 supporters in all fifty states. For more information, contact Michael Trombley at 603-456-3403.

Tom, why would you even post an article from G2K? They have a proven track record of stretching truths and flat-out lying.

Does the article hold some truth? Maybe. Remember though, that PERCENTAGES are drastically magnified when done on a small scale. Let's say 1 dog was hurt last year, and 5 were hurt this year. That is a 400% increase in injuries. Aonother thing to note is that more injuries are being REPORTED today. So what type of injuries are reported?? Anything that needs ANY medical attention. That includes sand in nail beds, cuts that need attention (that could have happened in a turn out lot), and sprained toes. These injuries usually require little to no time off.

Grey2K is nothing but a lobbying group, with a financial stake in the endless fight to end greyhound racing. Why don't you email them and ask them what they have accomplished in the fight? Got any tracks closed?? Got any more dogs adopted?? Done ANYTHING but stand around and quote the same tired-ass catchphrases??

Look at this picture from their website:

DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS WHAT THE CRATES LOOK LIKE AT HINSDALE?? Or do you think that is a propaganda tool??

For discussion... Looks like a kennel that no longer operates.

That picture is posted beside the Hinsdale article on G2K's website.

so i guess they need to end greyhound adoption, too, because my Al has hurt himself several times since i adopted him, one time i had to take him to the vet because he licked open his incision from being neutered and it got infected, so i guess they should put and end to dogs being neutered, too...

if people want ALL track injuries to be reported, that's fine, but we have vets and animal clinics for a reason, DOGS GET HURT, whether its running around a track, or the neighborhood backyard ... whether its jumping into a crate at a kennel, or jumping down some stairs in their home... its gonna happen dogs will have injuries

The lights were still running when the picture was taken. I don't think it looks all that bad though.

Just a note ... my Ty was mentioned (along with many, many others) in a court report involving G2K about injuries in racing greys in New Hampshire in 2006 (I believe). Amazing what you find when you google your dog's name LOL.
