Finally the new owner of a retired rescued racing greyhound. He came straight to my home from the track and into my heart. Slim, formerly known as Yesterdamus, is a 4 year old black boy, with a bit of chrome to accent his handsomeness. I also have two dachshunds, yeah I know, but really, if you discount the legs there really are many similarities:) 3 fish, and one cat. Slim came thin, dehydrated after 2 days on a truck from Florida, with an injured and infected toe (now known as the most expensive toe on planet earth) but none-the-less, he has totally stolen my heart of course and now I cannot imagine life without a greyhound in it. He's been with me now just a bit over 2 month and has transitioned to life on the outside quite well. He thinks furniture rocks, little dogs are sometimes annoying but never dull, cats are really dangerous and the humans must protect all dogs from the bad gray one that counts coup on all three dogs regularly. He's gained about 7 pounds and now is at 80 lbs weight, still needs a few more but he already looks like a different dog. I've understood the plight of the racing hounds for many years, and their story in many ways is not different than that of the racing thoroughbreds. So glad there are so many folks who are willing to take on these wonderful dogs that become an industry by- product when they are done racing. Glad to be part of the group!!
