PITTSBURGH -- Officials at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium are celebrating the birth of the zoo's second elephant calf this month.
The zoo said in a short news release that the newest baby elephant was born about 5:30 a.m. A news conference is planned Friday to offer details.
A female calf was born on July 9 to 26-year-old Savannah, an African elephant. Back then, zoo officials said Moja, another elephant at the zoo, was expected to give birth any day.
By the time Savannah gave birth, Moja had already set a record for the longest pregnancy by a captive elephant at 673 days
Both elephants mated with the zoo's bull elephant, Jackson.
