I know it is always stated 'Greyhounds should always be muzzled in public for safty' but how many hounds actually need these? How about your dogs?

Well, that's kind of a double-edged sword. If you know you have an aggressive hound, I'd say maybe. The down side is that your hound is unprotected against other aggressive dogs when he's wearing a muzzle. If they're running free with a bunch of other greyhounds and all are muzzled, I say fine. wink.gif

About the only time I put the muzzles on is when we are with other hounds at playtime and sometimes when i trim nails. Even then I dont usually need it.

Ty has only wore his muzzle once since bringing him home. I agree that it leaves them completely unprotected against other dogs when out on walks. Who is being kept "safe" when they are muzzled, the other dogs not on leashes or the little yappy dogs who control their owners? My job as Ty's owner is to keep HIM safe and secure. With our BIG boys (Ty is 87 lbs and our Lab is 100 lbs) a good firm NO before their anxiety escalates keeps them in check I can not physically control them so I have to mentally control them ... they both know MOM IS BOSS (took alot of training with the lab but we got there). I have never heard another owner (other than grey owners) while walking say NO to their dog. Am I just an overbearing mom?
As for muzzling while playing with other greys ... if we were close enough to a group and he went ... I would muzzle simply because of the mishaps that can occur when you get these guys together.
We have been very lucky in that "THE VOICE" keeps Ty (and Remy) behaving. One of the things that has amazed me is how well Ty does behave when nails are cut, baths, teeth brushed ect.

I muzzle when introducing, but everyone is muzzled. Usually, its another greyhound. I also muzzle at fun runs!!!
Right now, Rocky gets muzzled when I leave the house. He tends to chew on things!!!

I've never heard that greyhounds should be muzzled when out in public in the US. My dogs are muzzled when they are in the yard, introductions to new dogs, in the car and any playgroup activities. I know my dogs, I've seen what can happen between unmuzzled dogs and muzzled dogs.

I would NEVER muzzle my dog in a group of unmuzzled dogs.

Thats a touchy question. I muzzled on the way home from the GAA Picnic because we came with two and left with 3 greyhounds biggrin.gif
If my dogs are the only ones at the dog park I will muzzle cause I know my Harley is a nipper. He came from a litter of 12 and they all nipped.
I too was told to muzzle when at a dog function but when I first took my 2 to the dog park with muzzles on, more then half the people looked, snatched thier dogs and left. huh.gif So I don't use them anymore. But the good part is if the park is packed I will put on their muzzles and clear the field laugh.gif

We muzzle ours in the van except for Bear. We usually have our 4 and my sister's Misty when we travel, so just to be on the safe side we do this. We have 3 humans and 5 doggies in the van. I told Trish we are going to need a bigger van. biggrin.gif
