Smoking roll ups
Drinking
Smoking cannabis

If you're gambling with buddies for weekend entertainment, no big deal. If you're blowing through the retirement fund and getting yourself fired, big deal.

If one person is smoking a tailor-made with their Friday night glass of scotch and that's the only time they're smoking or drinking, their habit will kill them a lot slower than the pack-a-day lifer's addiction or the Friday-night binge drinker who drives himself home.

It's all a matter of degree.

No Shalea, you're WRONG! WE MUST BAN IT ALL!!! We have to have the federal government tell us what is right or wrong!!! rolleyes.gif

Seriously, I feel exactly like Shalea. Everything in moderation. Yep, it can be hard at times, but that is called GROWING UP.

Ummm, I don't know in Canada we are told all the time what is good for us and then it becomes a law ... let me check with my reprsentative and I will get back to you biggrin.gif
How many think pot should be made legal? and where do you stop with what drugs are legal/illegal? Just wondering don't throw things please.

I don't really have an opinion on legalizing pot for general use, but I think it's incredibly stupid that doctors are forbidden to prescribe it when it has some real medical benefits in certain cases (pain/nausea relief for cancer patients going through chemo, for example).

Here in Alaska it's legal to have a certain amount (about 1oz or less) in your home, and you can have a couple or so plants. But you can't have it near a school, and you can't transport or sell.

My biggest problem with pot is that it sucks the ambition and motivation out of most people, especially teens and young adults. After a couple hooties your greatest ambition is to find the bag of Doritos you stashed last week and watch the latest iteration of Jack@$$.

Not to mention the short term memory loss... Perfect example: Are local Make "Hemp" Legal group called me to ask for financial support. They told me they'd send me literature on their position, etc. I told them send away and I'd be happy to throw a check in the mail after I received their printed pitch. Three months later they call to gently remind me of my promise of a donation. I remind them of their promise of info. They promise again to send. Three months later I receive another call, again reminding me of my pledge. Speaking very slowly, I remind them that they were going to send me lots of wonderful information about "Hemp". At this point I wanted to shout, "Step away from the bong!" I never did learn about the benefits of hemp.

Too funny!! Yeah, it seems as though they were using the product of the cannabis plant for more than hemp!

You're also right about the loss of motivation brought about by marijuana use. I am a personal freedoms kind of guy, and I could care less whether or not you want to do drugs and destroy your mind and body. But when it infringes on MY rights (ie, my tax dollars being diverted to drug rehab programs, my house being broken into, etc.) that is where I draw the line. Go ahead and legalize it, but don't ask me for a damn dollar when you become an addict living purely for your next high.

That doesn't sound cold-hearted, does it... rolleyes.gif

Not too cold hearted at all! Personally, I'd rather have someone stoned driving down the road vs drunk - stoned you're paranoid and vewy, vewy careful, drunk you're brave and bulletproof cool.gif .

Ummm I'd prefer neither drunk nor high especially when I think that shortly my 16 yr old will be on those same roads.
I agree with the IDEA that everyone has the right to waste away their lives and I should not be made to pay for someone else's stupidity that being said I think their should be huge punishments should stupid people do stupid things(theft, selling production ect.) ... to protect those of us who do make good choices.
