I love my job. The people that I work for are getting foreclosed by the previous owner. The groomer at work worked for and knows the previous owners real well, they are going to keep the groomer and me- they're going to get rid of everyone else when they take over again.

The thing that is worrying me is my pay for the last week that the owners that have the business now. This is all supposed to happen 12/10 and that week I don't get my check until 12/12. Man, I am in no position to get screwed out of a weeks pay but I think that's exactly what's going to happen.

Do I have any kind of legal leg to stand on here?

The owners that have it now are acting like none of this is going on. Maybe I should wait until that last week and tell them I need cash everyday?

I just don't know what to do.....

Wow, that's a tough spot to be in. I can't offer you any legal advice, but I do hope you'll get paid. The good news is, you'll have a job. I hope everything works out ok.

This is just an educated guess...

Whoever owns the place during that week will owe you the wages. If it's the folks getting foreclosed on and you believe they won't be paying, I'd have a talk with both parties and find out how these outstanding debts will be handled, because your wages won't be the only debts out there. There will be utilities, product, and whatever other overhead accrues in the regular running of the business. Just because they're getting foreclosed on doesn't mean all the other bills go away unless they're filing bankruptcy, too, and even then there will be bills that get paid.

Labor laws are pretty strict - you work, you get paid - so you might want to give your local Dept of Labor a ring, too, to find out how this is normally dealt with.

Good luck. This is sooo not the time of year to be fighting for pay. UGH.

That stinks, I think calling the labor dept is a good thing to do, just so you know where you stand. I hope it all works out for you.

Great advice simile! I'll do just that. They did try to declare bankruptcy but they were denied.

I talked to the groomer yesterday and she said that after the foreclosure is final, the previous owners have to post it in the paper for 10 days and then they can take it back again? That would put the date to the 20th, which makes me feel better because I get paid on the 19th, plus I'll have this next pet run done instead of leaving in the middle of everything going on.

Anyone want to buy a beautiful boarding kennel in FL? There's even a real nice house on the property with a pool....

Whomever owns the kennel during the week you work has to pay, and yes it can be a legal issue if they don't pay.... Good Luck!

There was some kind of snafu with the legal paperwork and the foreclosure was put on hold. I think they made enough during December to catch up on the back money that they owed, so for now it looks like they are going to be keeping the kennel.

They also gave me a 1.00 an hour raise and they hired Sharon to help out too!

The foreclosure did go through- man I hope the people keep their word and let me keep my job. Guess I'll find out in 9 days. This sucks.

I called the people that are taking the place back and talked to them. I'm pretty sure they are going to keep me.

It should be interesting- they are known world wide and highly respected breeders and trainers of german shepherds. They trained dogs for police work, nuclear power plant security, narcotics detection and tracking. They have pretty much retired from the training now and just breed a few litters a year now.

They talk just as much about shepherds as I do about greyhounds so it should be interesting to say the least.....

The groomer worked with them before and said that they are very difficult to work with but if anyone could get along with them, it would be me because I talk dog too.

It helped alot too that the customers are asking if I'll be staying with the kennel because they like the care their dogs are given. That made me feel real good to hear that.

Well Pat - if the love, compassion and respect you feel and show the dogs are considered when deciding to keep you or not - you will surely keep your position!!! And I do hope so!!!

I got layed off today...and I don't qualify for unemployment I am soooooo screwed.

Not the new old peoples fault- it's the freakin' economy- no one can afford to go anywhere.
