Full Version: Bike Riding with Houndies!
simile
Well, just got my Springer bike attachments this week and I'm going to attach them tonight or tomorrow, so we'll see if they really work as advertised. It'll be really, really nice if my husband and I can actually bike ride with the two pups and not worry about crashing & burning along the way.

It would also be nice to ride to the dog park and burn off a little excess energy before we get there - maybe dampen the prey drive a bit since we don't have a small dog section yet wink.gif .

If you all are interested, I'll keep you posted with pics and text, since the Springer website is pretty sparse (I think).

Wish me luck!

How is this going?

It actually went pretty good. Those contraptions are really nice. Well worth the investment to have both hands free and be able to ride with both dogs if I want. We did have one incident, though.

We were riding through the neighborhood, and some guy's little dog came charging us. Amazingly, Jack & Chloe just got excited and didn't try to go after it, but at the same time the guy was carrying a HUGE box 'o crap out to the street (garbage day was the next day) and instead of setting it down, he threw it. Dogs and I were paying attention to the small fuzzy, so when the guy hurtles the box, Jack shied, swerved in towards the bike, then pulled really hard away. But because of the way the Springer is designed (energy transfer from dog to Springer, Springer to bike and back), I had enough time to get my feet on the ground and control the bike going down so neither dogs nor rider were squished or scraped. Guy just stood there looking at us. Never asked if we were ok.

Anyway, other than that one incident, everything else was really good. We'll see how next summer goes. I think it'll be a really good way to keep Chloe in great shape for lure coursing, if I decide to compete with her. It's also a really good way to burn some of her WAY excess energy. She's a very busy girl laugh.gif .
