Full Version: Flying Penske offspring
BlackStar Rising
I usually foster in pairs and right now I have 2 littermates, Poetic Endeavor and Mister Mystery. These 4 ½ year old boys, just retired from the track at Birmingham a week ago and are slowly settling into retirement.

Their sire was Flying Penske. Penske seemed to throw pups that are a bit shy/reserved and these guys are no exception. They’re not real spooks at all, but are wary of people, don’t seek contact or petting, very independent, minimal eye contact, nervous, prefer their crate, etc. Some of that can be poor early socialization, but with the Penske reputation I think some is hereditary.

Has anyone adopted retired Penske hounds? What was their personality? How were they 6 months later?

I’m especially interested because I have a racing pup out of Penske and he’s also quite timid now at 22 months. He’ll retire to a soft bed in my house when that time comes (of course biggrin.gif ), but I am curious about these Penske greys that are starting to retire. Penske was a MAJOR sire, and his genetic imprint will be significant.

This is Magic Penske age 5. We adopted him in May from Gold Coast Adoption. He is laid back not spooky and lives here in Pittsburgh with his Aunt Softee (Oshkosh Racey offspring) and 4 other females. Listens but loves to surf and has done some chewing. He is not shy around people and has gone up to people in Pet Smart in order to be petted. He was fostered in Jacksonville by a gal that has Reward Highway (Softee's Half Brother) and she just adopted Eclipse who is Penske's half brother. She says Eclipse is very laid back and she calls him a bum. Nothing going on and he sleeps. Will get more information for you from his Mom Penske thinks Belle's pool is a giant water bowl. When I called the owner to sign him over to me they also called him Penske and when I contacted Gold Coast the president told me that his trainer loved hearing about him.

Thanks, Beryl! That's good to hear. I personally love the shy hounds. Makes me want to hug them and protect them. emo-greylove.gif It's like watching a flower bloom when they start to come out of their shell.

Magic Penske looks like his dad! And he raced a long time too. I'm torn between wanting my racing boy to race well and long, or flunking out and retiring fast so he can come home to mama. laugh.gif

Yes, Flying Penske died unexpectedly in February this year. Big loss.

Hi Carol
Goofed up we adopted our boy in April not May and he is our first boy. He loves to rest his head on my lap & chest and just looks into your face and eyes with those liquid eyes. We do call him the butler as he will go around and clean up after the girls
We brought him back home in a Penske Rental Van. Drove down to Jacksonville with the five girls in the same van. Here's a picture of Penske beside the van.

I have a cute picture of him, Aunt Softee and Uncle Highway which I will post later for you to see. Actually I could not resist their cute back ends and I will look for a picture of Penske's half brother. Heard at Dewey one year that Off springs of Oskosh Racey are shy and laid back so that could of been passed on to Flying Penske.
I had an adopted boy in a racing kennel but we never got him - found out 36 hours before we were leaving for Florida that he was dead no explaination to either us or the owner.

Could not resist this picture. They were all waiting for dinner. Uncle Highway, Aunt Softee and Penske (bare butt). Had the camera ready and clicked away.

HERE IS ANOTHER RELATIVE AND HALF BROTHER TO PENSKE JUST IN FROM ECLIPSE'S MOM

Go to Bl's Eclipse on Greyhound Data. Bl is for Brian
Luke and I forget the guy's last name... There is a
pic of him--and you do have the pic of the 4 of them
together? Softee and Highway should be 1/2 siblings to
Flying Penske?! Flying Penske had like 4,000 offspring
I think. But Eclipse did get a few AA races

Gorgeous hounds - shy or not! Wow!

Ace is Oshkosh Racey's grandson. Ace is very shy. We adopted him in January and while he's come a long way, he's still nervous around people.

Hi,

I'm Michelle and I have both Highway (Reward Highway) and Eclipse (Bl's Eclipse). I have had Highway for over four years now and he is my heart dog! He is awesome! He loves everyone and loves to jump up and down when he's excited, even though he has arthritis. I have only had Eclipse for about 2 1/2 months. He is a love and very calm. He's a bit more shy than Highway; jumps at strange noises. But he's coming along and loves greeting people just like his unk and 1/2 bro Penske. These boys are a pleasure!!! biggrin.gif
Beryl
Penske is not nervous around people - Softee very nervous at first and hated men. She is not as bad but still spooky if you touch her and she is not expecting it. She has mellowed a little towards men since we started doing Pet Therapy.

emo-welcome.gif Michelle - For everyone reading this Michelle fostered Penske for me until I arrived in Florida. I have become very close to her after meeting at the first Sandy Paws and consider her my adopted daughter. Love you Michelle

Just saw your baby on Data Handsome boy - I cannot believe how all these Oshkosh Racey Pups look alike along with Flying Penske's.
Beryl
Glad Michelle is here too she had problems with another board - would not let her join. Having Michelle here on EG will be the other board's loss but EG's gain.

Thank you!! It's cool seeing pics of the other pups, especially Beryl and Dave's since I know them and they are so far away!!!

Yes, I tried to join another board but it would not allow me since I have Yahoo email and they don't allow free email addresses to join?!

Thanks for all the greetings!

Here's my shy boy looking pretty confident. We were at a baseball field letting the dogs run.

Hugs to that handsome boy. I see how much they look like each other. Penske, Highway, Eclipse and my Softee all look alike almost down to the white hair. Of course Softee is much smaller. When we have them out people ask if they are siblings but of course we have to say not aunt & nephew then they look at us as if we are nuts until we explain that Softee's sire and Penske's grandsire are one in the same then the light bulb goes off. I also tell them it is easier to trace our greyhound than it is ourselves. I have traced a couple of my kids back to the 1720's and the others to the 1820 except poor Hershey.

I think it's really cool that we are able to find our Greyhounds' relatives! I can't do that with my Italian Greyhounds, unfortunately. Just yesterday, I found Ace's cousin whom I've actually known for several years!
Beryl
Yes I love tracing back my greys and some of my friends. a few of them did not know about Greyhound Data and was using Rosnet which I think is harder to navigate. Tell your handsome boy that his Auntie Softee is going to be 14 on 8/2 via data and 8/3 via registration papers. Have to get a new picture of her and post

Liza
Is your handsome boy a Drama King like Penske. For example he loves to get his ears cleaned with Kleenex adn then all of a sudden he will yelp, had them checked by vet nothing wrong, but he will come back for more cleaning and then not a peep

Beautiful hounds all! Welcome Michelle ... that other board wouldn't let me join either dry.gif . Oh well, this group is way more fun anyway laugh.gif

Tara yoou are right about this board being more fun. At least here you don't have to worry about getting censored when you want to speak your piece and that is BS that some of the boards will not let certain people join because of their server. Do you think we should report them to the ACLU? Just kidding. emo-wubsite.gif
