WARNING: There are some very graphic pictures(though they're a bit blurry). Graphic as in pictures of dead people and one picture of a man who's skin came off.
http://theunfunnytruth.ytmnd.com/I'm sure a lot of people know about what the doctrine of Scientology entails. But this YTMND isn't about that. It's about some of the things the Church of Scientology has done in the past. It's quite horrible... I'm sure a lot of people just think "Let the crazy people believe what they want". But the problem isn't with their believes at all.

Ok, didn't want to watch the whole thing. Saw enough.
Back in the day, when newsgroups were still very active, I subscribed to alt.scientology. It was an eye opener. There were a lot of ex members talking about their experiences; the money spent, the abuse and control, and the harassment once they left the church. Now, whether any of it was true or not, who can tell (I mean, I did read this on the 'net), but with incidents like Lisa McPherson and others, I'm inclined to believe a lot of it.
And don't anyone forget, back before Dianetics, L Ron did an interview for a pulp magazine stating that the easiest way to get rich was to become a successful author or start a religion. He did both.

In my humble opinion Scientology is not a religion it is a cult.

Definitely a cult. Heck, L. Ron himself admitted he started it as a business, he figured out just how much money he could make with a *religion*.

You may be able to tell me if this is true or not, but one of the things I read when alt.scientology was active was that scientologists could not hold any kind of gov't (civil) job in Canada. That there had been a number of cases of scientologists stealing confidential records and private information. Had you heard anything about this?

Ah, but the Hollywood church is a bit different than the other churches. They still have audits, and "clearing", and they get to pay large sums of money to progress, but the more sinister aspects aren't aired in Hollywood.

I read/watch very little Canadian news (most news companies here are partially owned/supported by the government so no fair and balanced LOL) but I will ask my husband he might have heard something.
Isn't John Travolta a Scientologist as well?
Tom Cruise a scientologist ... well that explains ALOT!

Yep, Travolta's been a Scientologist since the 70's. The movie, Phenomenon, was just a big ol' ad for Scientology. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie, but it was chock full of Scientology dogma.

So that is why Katie Holmes is now an alien. Scientology in my opinion is dangerous and frankly their practices are quite scary to me.

The only thing I have found was a case related to files being found in the home of the leader of their organization in Ontario (estimated 39,000 revenue files). They then tried to destroy the prosecutor who then won a libel suit against them and some members were also charged with Breach of Public trust. The group was also denied charitable status (makes a difference in raising money, tax write-offs ect.).
