Full Version: Poop eating
dad2paisley
Our Suzy has just started eating poop in the yard. She usually likes these tasty treats during the winter but has been doing this now.emo-puke.gif
I scoop the yard every day and everytime they go but she still can find em. Any suggestions?

Yuck! Misty has no interest in poop eating, thank goodness.

nasty habit --- there is this stuff that you put in their food and it makes their poo worst tasting than it already is and I have seen it work on many different breeds with no harmful effects on the dogs -- ask your vet or go to some of the dog supply on line catalogs -- Care-a-lot-pet supply or I think Valley pet is one -- good luck

I've actually seen this stuff at PetCo, and our local feed stores carry a couple different brands.

Yep, it's a nasty habit, but my vet always told me if you feed your pets high quality stuff, high quality stuff come out, and the dogs LIKE it. And, of course, dogs are just gross. I mean, poop eating, garbage ransacking, underware chewing, dead fish rolling - if it's nasty, they're happy wink.gif .

poop guard muzzle should do it.

No dog poop eating around here. However tis the season cause all 3 of mine insult me after they eat each meal by going out in the back yard and find DESERT! Thanks to all the lovely wild rabbits that visit my back yard during the night they now have desert every morning. When I scoop the dog poop I scoop what ever rabbit poop as well. grrrrrrrrr

When we had poop eaters now we have dirt eater we were told by the vet to use Meat Tenderizer on their food. Just sprinkle some on and he told us that when it comes out the back end it does not gave a good taste. Does not work on all dogs.

Mine learned to scoop even with the poop guard muzzle on especially if it was raining..

Yeah, Delightful habit... Of course the urge to roll in anything dead is also an endearing quality.

We did the muzzle + poop cup thing for both ours and it has worked for several years...

I had two poop eaters by beloved Shadow and Phawn who are now at The Bridge. Phawn would manage to scoop up poop especially if it had rained. Now I have dirt eaters they love to dig holes and eat the dirt. We could not figure out where all the dirt was when we filled in the holes. Finally we realized it was in their bellies. They love to go out after eating and as we say get their dessert (dirt)

Colder weather is coming and hmmm.. Suzy will be trying to eat frozen poo. I think Trish is getting some muzzle guards.

Will have to keep an eye out with mine as I have not noticed any poop eating but a log of sniffing

This is going to sound like a strange question but do they eat poop all the time or just at night. We used to have a bunch of dogs in the kennel that only ate poop at night. I just always thought that was strange and wondered if they do that once they got into homes.

You need something to think about when you pick up 160 piles of poop a day for 10 years. biggrin.gif

Our precious Phawn used to eat it all the time and even managed to get it with the poop cap on. How she did it was anyone's guess. I was told that they eat it as there is a lot of undigested food in the poop

That's what I heard, but I'll tell you there was alot more poop eating going on when it got close to worming time, especially when it was time to worm them with Ivomec. I don't know if it was the Ivomec or the buttermilk that we gave them afterwards, but alot would stop after doing that.

I'm blessed with no poop eaters at the house so I'm just basing that on what I noticed at the kennel.

so far no poop eaters here but we have not had Penske long enough to see
