How silly, if I enjoy attending football games or boxing matches, nobody says I'm "Pro Football" or "Pro Boxing", hahaha
You might say I enjoy Pro Football, compared to college or backyard football... I think the same idea goes in greyhounds. You might enjoy Pro Greyhound Racing (professional) compared to a bunch of dogs running around in a backyard. I mean it's an organized sporting event.
Anyone who asks this question is either pretty stupid or knows nothing ABOUT greyhound racing, or both. People attend the races almost every night. It's great, you get to know the dogs, the people, the kennels. You pickup some hot tips, win some and lose some.
But if you follow the dogs and enjoy handicapping the races, it's one of the most enjoyable pastimes in sports. You get involved in the races because you're betting and handicapping. Baseball or football games, you just sit there and yell. Big deal. People like the fast action, and each race is a puzzle to figure out what will happen.
The only REASON
dog racing isn't on ESPN on cable TV, is the track operators could never get together and promote themselves. Horse racing made that mistake too, 20 years ago, and they got it fixed. Now you see the Kentucky Derby on ABC each year. But the dog tracks just sat back and blew their franchise, it's really a shame.
BTW, we used to have Whippet racing on the greyhound track. They would bring in local Whippet clubs, AKC groups, to run Exhibition Races - no betting. But the little guys absolutely love it!! And it's always a scream because, there is some messing around - a Whippet will decide to run the other direction.
After a Whippet race is over, a couple of the little guys always refuse to be caught. They play 'keep away' and make their Owners chase them around the track. While the crowd in the grandstands is watching and laughing - quite a sight. I love the Whippet races!!!
