Once in a while, I get a sudden reminder of how strange everything really is for them
Introducing... Amstel, a recent foster in my home. Amstel is a social, happy, energetic, healthy fellow, and when he arrived at my house in the evening, I showed him (and his roomate hound) "the ropes"... water dish is here, crates are there, route to go outside is this way, you all know what I mean
They are so cute seeing everything for the first time. All was normal. The next morning, I open their crates to let them out, and they head down the hall. The way out (which they did fine the night before) is a left turn. My laundry area is straight ahead, and the door on one side was open. In hindsight, I know that, to poor confused I'm-just-trying-to-be-good Amstel, it must have looked just like a kennel opening or a hauler hole, and JUMP.....

... up he went!!
To say I was stunned doesn't even begin to cover it!! LOL, I was paralyzed with shock!!! I always carry a small camera in my pocket and when I recovered, I got these pictures. He never did it again, but of course, I kept that door closed from then on!
It's really a lesson in how much we take for granted, thinking that they should understand certain things and they really don't. It really is a new world for them in a home. They'll do some of the strangest things and they aren't being bad at all - they are just trying to figure things out.
By the way, Amstel was adopted yesterday
Y'a just gotta love 'em!!!
